This monument is placed way out in the wilderness to mark the spot of Mt. Zion Church.
Many Bibb people can claim some kin to at least one of the persons named on it. The monument reads as follows:
Organized 1869 - Disbanded about 1914
Elder T. P. Norris, Moderator
J. T. Allen, Clerk
Some of the Members
William Wiley & Nancy (Claudle) Deason
John Columbus & Louisa (Brown) Deason
Henry & Matilda (Deason) Owens
Eliza Angeline (Deason) Smith
Nancy Adeline (Deason) Yeager
Henry Jackson Bracknell
J. T. Filgo
Minervra Smith Holder
Caroline Patton
Jason D. McElroy (NOTE: This name on plaque is incorrect; it should be Jacob D. McElroy, not Jason.)
William E. Foley
The Church and dwelling houses were roughly
constructed of logs and their wearing apparel
was mostly the work of their own hands. But,
they enjoyed their way of living. They had time
to visit the sick and delighted in meeting together. Some
would go in an ox wagon, some on horse back and most of them afoot.
Dedicated by Walter Owens,
Art Deason & David Yates
